|Texas Gov. George Bush|
On September 23, 1998 several African American newspaper editors and reporters were invited to a press conference with Gov. George Bush at the governor’s mansion in Austin, Texas. Bush, who requested the press conference, said he wanted to focus on education in Texas, specifically targeting minority children. He covered other subjects of interest to him, and what he perceived to be important to Texans. The topics Bush covered were specifically slanted toward African Americans. During his time in office Bush had never requested a press conference with minority newspapers. These reporters do not have media credentials to attend press conferences with the larger media.
